I was browsing through the internet and for some reason I put Shirebrook in, and lo and behold I couldn't believe the information that I found. First I"ll tell you that I was born in 1946 and was raised in Shirebrook, had three children and then emigrated to Canada in 1973. My maiden name was Carol Julian. I lived on Sookholme Rd with my Mum Olive and Dad Fred and sister Shirley. I really enjoyed seeing the old pictures and smiled at seeing Dave Goodwins' articles, as I can remember him delivering the milk with the horse and cart. I also enjoyed looking at the old school photos {some of the kids I knew quite well}. |

The picture of Sookholme Rd with Mrs Barkers corner store I have attatched to this was taken in 1984 on a visit to England {you can just see me in the photo}. It was sad for me to see all the row houses gone and Frenches Fields full of houses. The other picture was of Market Square but I can't remeber what date it was. I used to work at Mr Davis' chemist shop in the square. I will visit the site often now I know it is there. It is great that someone has had the initiative to set up something like this for those interested enough and for those a few thousand miles away that can't just 'pop in' to see old friends. Thanks........... Carol Clark |
