In March 1896, the sinking operations began
on No.1 shaft of Shirebrook Colliery,
the village was invaded by thousands of newcomers
in search of a home and job at the pit.
Shirebrook Colliery was closed in August 1994,
and 98 years as a mining village came to an end !.
